Story Synopsis

The story of an unremarkable, quietly suffocating woman with a secret so deep even she doesn’t recognize it. Having escaped as a teenager from a rigidly insular world that was alternately free-thinking, unstructured, loving, and traumatic, she finds herself in a postcard-perfect society where she has fallen into a fugue state with little conscious memory of her past. But when she’s abducted by her former family, it all comes back in vivid color — along with some pretty badass powers she’s not in full control of.

Director's Statement

My interest in collective dreams both waking and sleeping compelled me to create a story exploring the shifting sands of memories and truths we construct.

Our conditioned denial of human duality, however, comes with a cost as we embrace a limited picture of who we are, raising the question—what powers are we willing to repress in order to fit into the world we find ourselves in?

And in a time of increased polarization and demands of fealty to concepts of truth created as a means to control, what price are we willing to pay in awakening to that truer version of ourselves?

Nobody Fucking Leaves centers on Riley, a woman in her 30s living a seemingly perfect life in an idyllic suburban neighborhood. Successful, well-liked, and surrounded by an outwardly supportive community, beneath this polished exterior lies discontent and a mystery buried deep within her psyche—one that even she is unaware of. The film explores Jungian concepts of self and themes of self-repression, trauma, family, and the haunting nature of the past.
